City Concept Piece

1 Comment | Aug 04 2007

A piece of cocept art to get an idea what i might want my next assignment to look like. We have to do a city, both from a distance and going down one of the streets. Honestly, im having trouble jumping into this assignment because im FINALLY animating my portfolio short and i gotta admit, its more fun than anything ive deen so far! Everytime i sit down to work on assignments i find myself opening up a scene and soing some animation instead.

Oh well, either way somethings gettin done!

Latest Assignment

My latest project for school. I had originally intended to use it as the setting for my upcoming portfolio animation, but the simplistic style of my characters clashes too much with this setting. Im currently doing a much more cartoony and simpler version of a pool hall for them.
Meanwhile, the assignment was to create an interior with a good sense of atmosphere and mood, created by solid lighting, props and textures. Im happy with it, but as always, if there were only more time for the ideas that didnt make it in…

Marf Wire Updates

Here is the reworked geometry for Marf Mifflehopper. Thank you Chatree for all your incredibly helpful suggestions. He is now based more off of concentric circles at the shoulders, legs and especially the face. A quick rigging test revealed that sure enough, he deforms much better now.
Still time for any more suggestions though!

Here you go Chatree! Let me know if you see any topology modifications that need to happen. I appreciate it! (I dont usually work with that many windows open lol!)
ps. i need to combine the chest hair into the main body and make it all one piece of geometry still.

Marf Mifflehopper Update

Well here is the latest incarnation of Marf “The Man” Mifflehopper. Still some things i need to add (like eyelids and a throat, you know, useless stuff). For the most part though this is the model. Right now the texture is more of a placeholder than anything. I plan on going in and actually making his shirt look like spandex at some point.

Any and all comments/critiques are more than welcome!

Room Recreation Final

Here is the latest assignment i just finished up for Digital Lighting,Texturing and Rendering Class (mouthful). The assignment was to pick a real life image with interesting lighting and attempt to mimic it as best as possible. I chose this image because of its soft lighting and its complete contrast in feel and setting to my previous assignment (still life). I feel happy with it for the most part but i do feel some of my control was limited – this was the first time i attempted the use of Mental Ray and it felt a little different, but definitely good to mess with.

Here she be…

New Character Board

2 Comments | Feb 25 2007

My latest school project for Character Rigging. The objective was to design a character for the Monster Olympics! It could be old or new monsters, classic or made up. I had done an assignment a few terms ago where we had to redesign all the characters from Van Helsing as if they were to be in an animated show. Because of this, i decided i had done my share of classic monster redesigning and instead i made up a monster. Here he is, the rhythmic gymnastics afficianado himself…
I cant wait to see him animated in 3d!

PS. Its due on Monday but there’s still time for changes so plz, any and all suggestions are welcome!

School Assignment

Im working on a 3D Digital still life done in Maya. The assignment was to create indoor lighting and outdoor lighting. I decided to use johann Vermeer’s work as a reference and as a way to nail down a time and a place for my scene. Here it is so far. Still a few tweaks id like to add in Photoshop. Questions or critiques are welcome!
