Ratchet and Clank Cinematics: Layout to Final

I’ve always loved seeing a breakdown of professional animators’ shots, from layout to blocking to finish, so I decided to do that with a few of the cinematics I animated on Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time. For most scenes, I was given a 3D layout created by the awesome Dave Cumbo to work from.  Also included is the time taken, from the moment I received the layout through completion of the scene.
NOTE:
In Terac Sequence, Ratchet and Azimuth animation not by me. Included only for continuity.

  1. Thanks for posting these up! Some great stuff for sure.

  2. Wow! I am so happy I found your post on the 11 secondclub. This is some really cool work, Sean. It’s so insightful to see your progress through the phases of animation. You, as well as your fellow animators, di such a great job on this game. I am a huge fan of the series, and an aspiring 3D animator myself. I hope you are able to post more things like this in the future, and I am going to be sure to favourite your site right after this. I dream to one day create slick pieces of animation like these ones, and maybe even get the chance to work for Insomniac Games too. Either way, really great and inspiring work. Thanks again, Sean, you have some real awesome talent.

    Take it easy,
    Daniel
